anthony bezzina has been an established theatre director for over 35 years and is now a pillar of the local theatre scene. His work has taken him to the US, UK, Italy, and several other countries, enriching his artistic journey with international experience. In 1997, after many successful years working in Malta’s theatre industry, Tony and his wife Veronica founded Masquerade Theatre Company—a milestone that marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter filled with acclaimed productions and creative projects.

Tony is also synonymous with Masquerade School for the Performing Arts, which he founded and continues to lead as principal. Through his vision and dedication, the school has grown into one of Malta’s foremost performing arts institutions. For over 25 years, he has taught, mentored, and inspired countless students, guiding them towards achieving their full artistic potential.

As a director, Tony’s portfolio spans a wide range of productions. His musical credits include My Fair Lady, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Annie, The King and I, Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret, 1565: The Musical, The Rocky Horror Show, The Last Five Years, Jekyll & Hyde, Matilda the Musical, Grease The Musical, Oliver! and We Will Rock You Y@P.

His work in drama is equally notable, with productions such as Tartuffe, Amadeus, Noises Off, Five Kinds of Silence, Who is Sylvia? (The Goat), Doubt, Blackbird, Becky Shaw, All New People and Closer!

Veronica Bezzina trained in acting at the Manoel Theatre Academy of Dramatic Arts (1981-84). During the last 35 years, Veronica has also coordinated several big shows and productions. In 1997, together with her husband anthony bezzina, Veronica set up Masquerade Theatre Company. A year later they set up Masquerade School for the Performing Arts, which she now runs on a full time basis with much energy and dedication. Veronica was also instrumental in the realization of their new performing arts centre, M Space which was launched in 2012.

Veronica’s theatre work has also taken her to the UK, Italy and other European countries and to date is working on a number of European and international cultural projects, establishing links with both national and international partners.

Josette Vella is the Administration Executive for Masquerade Malta. She started working for Masquerade in 2003 and quickly immersed herself in different roles within the Masquerade family including becoming a student of theatre arts with Masquerade’s School for the Performing Arts, the school’s coordinator for Trinity College London Speech and Drama examinations, and performing the role of ASM for various Masquerade Theatre Company productions. Her home away from home for 20 years, watching the company name grow and develop, Masquerade will always hold a special place in her heart.

Mariella Galea has been associated with Masquerade Malta for over 20 years, ever since her elder son started attending Masquerade Theatre Arts School in 2001 at the previous school’s premises in Floriana. Her love for the theatre and our school continued to grow and nurture over the years, through the attendance and participation of her second son, from his early childhood and throughout his teenage years. Today, Mariella assists the school in its accounts and administration functions.

One of the original Masquerade staff members, Anthony was already staff back when Masquerade first launched in 1998. He has been involved backstage in all of Masquerade's productions up to 2005. Returning to Masquerade in 2018, Anthony is now the Premises Manager for M Space, responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the premises.
